Poem: cat

you disregard my need to write
and demand i pet you

petting over art,
i guess we all have different priorities

i try to act happy when you bring me
a gift of a live mouse

i also try not to flip out
when you jump on the table and eat my food

i forget sometimes that you are a cat
i wish i could purr like you
and see in the dark

now that I think about it
cats are pretty rad
you live on your own schedule

i wish you let me sleep in sometimes
